Celine Dion<\/strong> has suffered another family tragedy: Her brother Daniel Dion<\/strong> has died of cancer, days after her husband\u00a0Ren\u00e9 Ang\u00e9lil<\/strong> succumbed to the same ailment.<\/p>\n

The Canadian pop singer’s rep confirmed the news to E! News on Saturday, hours after it was revealed Daniel suffered from\u00a0cancer of the throat, tongue and brain\u00a0and did not have long to live<\/a>. He had battled the disease for a few years, Celine’s rep said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Daniel was one of Celine’s 13 older siblings and the eighth child of parents,Th\u00e9r\u00e8se Dion<\/strong>, 88, and Adh\u00e9mar Dion<\/strong>, who died in 2003 at age 80.<\/p>\n

Daniel\u00a0is also survived by his daughters,\u00a0Val\u00e9rie<\/strong> and Marie-Michelle<\/strong>, grandchildren Matis<\/strong> and Laurianne<\/strong>\u00a0and “many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends, who are remembering a gentle and reserved man of many talents,” read the statement.<\/p>\n

Celine, \u00a0has not commented about her brother.\u00a0Daniel will be honored at a religious funeral later this month at St-Simon-et-Jude, in Charlemagne Qu\u00e9bec, where the family was raised.<\/p>\n

“His last days were in the wonderful care of the doctors and personnel at\u00a0Maison\u00a0Adh\u00e9mar-Dion, a palliative care center\u00a0in Terrebonne Qu\u00e9bec,” the statement read. “For those wishing to\u00a0send flowers, a\u00a0donation to that organization\u00a0would be very much appreciated.”<\/div>\n

His and Celine’s\u00a0sister\u00a0Claudette<\/strong> had recently told\u00a0Le Journal de Montr\u00e9al<\/em>\u00a0that family members, including their mother, had flocked to his bedside.\u00a0The\u00a0newspaper quoted the family as saying that Daniel passed away at 5 a.m. on Saturday.<\/p>\n

“He was ready and he no longer suffers,”\u00a0Claudette told Le Journal de Montr\u00e9al<\/a><\/em>. “It was serene.”<\/p>\n

Ang\u00e9lil,\u00a0Celine’s husband of 20 years and the father of their three children,\u00a0died on Thursday<\/a>\u00a0at age 73 after battling\u00a0throat cancer.<\/p>\n

The singer\u00a0recently revealed that her husband’s\u00a0funeral will be held next Friday at Montreal’s Notre Dame Basilica. The two got married there in 1994.<\/p>\n
