Power, affluence and royalty are sweet and anyone who has tasted them will never want to drop from the ladder but sadly, change is the only constant thing in life. And whatever have a beginning must surely come to an end one day regardless of who we are. It’s the first day of a new year and it just dawned on me that one of the most powerful men in Nigeria, the late Ooni of Ile-Ife , Alayeluwa Oba Okunade Sijuwade who reigned from December 1980 till July 2015, is actually no more. Yes it’s true that a lot of powerful people die every now and then, but it is also true that the late Ooni of Ife was the most powerful King in Nigeria who sat on the throne for Thirty Five Years!

Though he died at a ripe age of 85, the death of Oba Sijwade shocked the entire country as it took all by surprise because nobody saw it coming. This was in July 2015 and as expected a new king, Oba AdeyeyeEnitan Ogunwusi has since been crowned, ( may his days be long).

The late Ooni of Ife was survived by many children but the ones that caught my fancy are his daughters who unknown to many, are devoted Christians, happily married and successful in their respective fields. Amongst the daughters of the late Ooni, are also two medical Doctors who are practising in the United Kingdom.
